Sculptures at the Tryon Fine Arts Center

Location

34 Melrose Ave. , Tryon, NC 28782

To the left of Lanier Library is the Tryon Fine Arts Center, a hub for performing arts with three sculptures on its grounds. The first is the Wood Beam Bell located in Eifert Plaza just to the left of TFAC’s main entrance. It’s the work of artist Tom Torrens of Tacoma, Washington and is meant to be a fun and tuneful reminder that life passes quickly but art is eternal. It was donated to TFAC by Wanda and Robert Veh in November 2017.

The second sculpture is the Blue Tree of Happiness which is in Sassoon Park just to the left of TFAC. It’s a kinetic, stainless-steel sculpture by artist Ray Giddens of Simpsonville, NC and symbolizes art and the spirit in constant motion. TFAC purchased it in 2017 as part of a regional sculpture show.

Just behind the Blue Tree of Happiness at the entrance to TFAC’s amphitheater is “Seed in Flight” by artist Adam Adcock, of Banner Elk, NC. It’s another kinetic sculpture made of steel and resin and is designed to appreciate the whimsy and wistfulness of movement. It was an entry in TFAC’s 2013 sculpture show.
