The Tryon Theatre Mural

If you’re heading into downtown Tryon on highway 176 from the south you’ll see this mural on the right side of the Tryon Theatre building over Upstairs Artspace. Lake Lure artist Judy Dempsey designed and painted the mural which depicts a large film strip with images of Tryon’s mascot “Morris the Horse” and the mountains. The wall used to be black, but theater owners Scott and Gail Lane hired Dempsey to make it more picturesque for visitors to see coming into downtown from South Carolina. Dempsey completed the mural in April 2023.
