Toy Soldier

Location

Corner of Trade and Pacolet Streets, Tryon, NC 28782

Not to be missed is a large wooden sculpture of a toy soldier, sitting on Trade Street, not far from Morris. It was originally the base of a tree that was dying and needed to be cut down. Then town manager Zach Ollis proposed turning the base of the tree into a wood sculpture. A town commissioner suggested carving it into a toy soldier like the ones made by Tryon Toymakers. The other commissioners agreed and the town hired local wood carver, Ted Travers, to do the work, which was completed in 2019.
