Toy Soldier
Location
26 Maple Street, Tryon, NC 28782
Link
The Toy Soldier has relocated to the front of the Tryon History Museum. Not to be missed, it is a large wooden sculpture, originally the base of a tree that was dying and needed to be cut down on the corner of Pacolet and Trade Streets. Then town manager Zach Ollis proposed turning the base of the tree into a wood sculpture. A town commissioner suggested carving it into a toy soldier like the ones made by Tryon Toymakers. The other commissioners agreed and the town hired local wood carver, Ted Travers, to do the work, which was completed in 2019.
